Since 1902 released a new EP!

“This is the result of death, disaster, and frustration. In the few months it came about, tornadoes ripped through missouri and my grandfather passed away. Serving as both therapy and an attempt to reconcile with a string of horrible events, Tornado Choir is frustration. It’s love. It’s confusion. It’s easy to look at things from the outside, but when you’re in the middle of it, it’s surprising how real and terrifying it can be.”

The EP is free, but all proceeds go to tornado relief in missouri!

This is a new song I’ve been working on for a while. It’s called Time Shares. I really tried to work on a nice bass line this time. Took a page right out of the XTC handbook.

Breezeway’s first physical release is finished. They couldn’t look any better and wouldn’t have been possible without the help of many talented people who spent long hours recording, printing, designing, waiting in kinkos, and assembling! I’d like to thank every wonderful person I’ve met this year (you know who you are!). Good vibes for 2k11! New Year’s resolutions are overrated, so I’ll end with this… 2011 is going to be a very excited and amazing year.

Relevant Elephant is a brand new band from St.Louis. After about ten years of playing music in the local scene, Joshua Benton, Ian McGee, and Patrick Frenking have come together to create a brand new EP. It starts with “Live This City,” a brooding, driven song that makes heavy use of Relevant Elephant’s main instrument, piano. A Mars Volta-esque guitar lick and tom heavy drumbeat drive the song. ”Allah,” my personal favorite off the EP, comes next. This is hands down the catchiest and most dance oriented song featured. When the beat locks down and that riff comes in, it’s really hard not to tap your toes. ”Nomad in the Shade” again, puts the piano front and center and features the best lyrics of the EP. It’s a bouncy number that finishes the EP right where it started. One of the main assets here is the production. Each instrument is defined in the mix and never sounds muddy. If you’re looking for good piano driven indie rock songs, look no futher than Relevant Elephant. I’m super excited to hear more from them.

So, there’s a new split between awesome St. Louis band Kid Counselor and our own Since 1902! Up there is the cover art, track list-less as of now, but soon to be populated with a great list of song. If you wanna see a larger version of the artwork, click here! We’ll be posting some snippets soon and have a finalized track list in the coming weeks.

You may have noticed that nothing new has been posted in a long time. This is a quick update on what’s been going on. The tumblr has been going through some redesigns and is finally in a suitable form. There are also some new, and handy, links to the side that’ll take you to our releases and the various websites we’re on, check them out!

In music related news, things are looking great! Since 1902 is closer than ever to releasing their new EP, a rocking new one at that. Bread and Butter is heading to the studio to start working on their first release. It’ll be fantastic. And finally, Audience has some new tunes in the works for the near future. Stick with us and check back soon for some more updates!

Since 1902 is Justin Enoch, a 15 (!) year old musical genius from Saint Louis, creating all his music in his bedroom. In addition to Since 1902, he is also the brain behind the ambient/alternative project Audience, which is described on last.fm as …Broken Social Scene/Tortoise-esque jams that combine elements live and electronic instrumentation to create a, sometimes raucous, collage of sound and music.

Now, as if this wasn’t enough, Enoch is also a producer and the founder of Breezeway Studios, where he promotes (so far) his own music. He also makes all the album art himself, of which he posts on his art blog here.

Really, I can’t help being envious as hell. When I was fifteen I listened to emo rock and didn’t know shit about good music, while this guy already has the talent and knowledge of someone way way way older than him. I’m sure he’s gonna make it real big. No doubt.
